Background
Bank BRI was developing a new digital product aimed at enhancing customer experiences & new branding in the financial sector.
Challenges
Challenge: maintaining design consistency, scalability, and efficiency while innovating in a fast-paced and highly regulated industry.
Without a unified design system, teams risked creating inconsistent UI and slowing down development.
Project Goals
Create a scalable design system tailored for the new product.
Ensure consistency across all components while allowing flexibility for future iterations.
Improve collaboration between design and development teams to shorten delivery time.
Role & Responsibilities
Conducted UI audit and identified reusable components for the product.
Defined design tokens (colors, typography, spacing, states).
Developed modular guidelines to align brand identity with financial services best practices.
Built documentation to ensure smooth adoption by designers and engineers.
Collaborated closely with product managers and developers in an agile workflow.
Process
Audit & Research – Analyzed existing UI elements and benchmarked industry best practices.
Component Library – Standardized UI elements into scalable, reusable modules.
Design Tokens – Created adaptable rules for consistency across platforms.
Documentation & Governance – Established clear usage guidelines to ensure sustainability.
Implementation – Integrated with dev team for real-time feedback and iteration.
Results & Impact
Consistency: Ensured brand-aligned, trustworthy interface for a critical banking product.
Scalability: Built a design system that can evolve as the product grows.
Collaboration: Improved cross-team alignment through a single source of truth.
Reflection
This project highlighted how a design system is not only a visual framework, but also a strategic foundation that enables financial products to scale securely and consistently. Working on a confidential, high-impact banking product taught me the importance of balancing innovation, compliance, and usability in fintech design.
